How long did you decant the covenant cab and let it breathe before it opened? I decanted a 2015 the other night for 30 minutes and it was closed and completely unimpressive. I uncorked it on the 2nd day, and with no decanting, drank it immediately and it opened BEAUTFULLY. Big california fruit bomb on the nose and outstanding finish…

Indeed these wines take time to come to us. Hence the DW starts in 2026. If you wish to fast forward, a decanter for an hour will do the trick. Still, I like to watch the wines come to me, so I open and I watch it evolve, with other wines to enjoy in their stead until the wine opens. In the end, it is all about what you want from the wine. If you want it ready to go and do not care about the path, decant for an hour or so. If you want to watch it evolve, then have a bottle or two of other stuff to enjoy and watch the journey!

have you tasted the Covenant Solomon Lot 70 2021 ?
-
Hello – yes
https://kosherwinemusings.com/2023/12/25/california-dreaming-2021-is-quite-the-vintage/
I underscored it, even better than it is scored, if it is available tomorrow for Black Friday BUY BUY BUY!

Current vintage is 2022, unfortunately 2021 is sold out (though a few retailers have some)

I did not know the 22 Lot 70 is the current release – sadly I have not yet tasted it – oh well – B”H soon!

TYVVVVVVVVM 🙂
How does it compare to the “2021 Herzog Cab Special Reserve, Alexander Valley Score: 94″ ? (obviously the Covenant Lot 70 2021 is 3 or 4 times the price)
-
In hindsight, I would lower the 21 Alex to 93+ and raise the 2021 Lot 70 to 95. Still, as stated the 21 Alex is a STEAL as is the 19 Echo de Rose Camille.
