Why We’re Building This

Where is Kosher Wine Musings and/or Kosher Wine Unfiltered?

For years, our blogs have been a labor of love—and a labor of significant expense. When we started our blogs, the goal was simple: provide honest, unfiltered, and technically rigorous reviews of kosher wine. Each of us wanted to help you find the “WINNERS” and avoid the “wastes of glass.”

But the world of kosher wine has changed. Prices have spiked 15–25% in the last year alone. The cost of traveling around the world (Paris, Spain, London, Italy, New York, California, Israel) to taste the new vintages at the source—staying in hotels, paying for shipping, and buying the bottles that wineries won’t send—has reached a point where a hobbyist model is no longer sustainable. Every year, we spend between $20,000 and $30,000 on wine, travel, and logistics – up until now, entirely out of our own pockets.

To keep this work alive, independent, and truly useful, we are evolving. This isn’t just a blog anymore; it is the foundation of a powerful resource, with a database to boot!

The Goal: Easy Accessibility

The main feedback we have received over the years is that finding information in the archives is difficult. Great QPR winners from a trip to France three years ago are buried in “Part 4” of a long blog series.

The Kosher Wine Database is the answer to that problem. It isn’t just a list of posts; it is a professional-grade, searchable, and filterable tool designed to give you the info you need in seconds. Whether you are standing in a wine shop or planning a Seder, you should be able to find the exact “Score,” “ABV,” and “Drink by Date” without digging through thousands of words of prose.

Kosher Wine Musings and Kosher Wine Unfiltered join forces to build the Kosher Wine Database

To make this move achievable we have pooled our resources to bring you the Kosher Wine Database. The site will have all the original historical posts from both Kosher Wine Musings and Kosher Wine Unfiltered, plus all new original content that we write both individually and collaboratively.

Why the Transition to a Paid Model?

If you’ve been following our “Hotel Tastings” or our deep-dives into the French and Israeli vintages, you know the scale of this operation.

Up until now, we have subsidized that entirely out of our own pockets. We don’t take ads. We don’t take “sponsored posts.” We don’t take kickbacks from importers. We are completely independent and in nobody’s pocket!

By moving to a paid model via the Kosher Wine Database, we are ensuring that we work for you, the reader. Our only obligation is to our palates and your wallet. If a wine is over-oaked, flabby, or “supermarket swill,” we are going to tell you—because you’re the one keeping the lights on.

Our 4-Phase Roadmap

We aren’t just putting up a paywall; we are building a tool. Here is exactly how we are rolling out the new experience:

  1. Phase 1: Immediate Access Upon joining, you will have full access to all archived Kosher Wine Musings as well as all archived Kosher Wine Unfiltered. You get access to two points of view about the kosher wine industry in one place. This content will no longer be available on the original sites. Kosher Wine Database is the only place you will be able to access all of this historical content. In addition, all new posts from both David and Avi will only appear here at the Kosher Wine Database.
  2. Phase 2: The Kosher Wine Search Engine. We are launching Instant Search. No more digging through “Part 4” of a trip report to find a note. You will also get the WINNER Filter, allowing you to instantly isolate every high-QPR wine we’ve ever reviewed.
  3. Phase 3: Community & Interaction (Later This Year) We will open a dedicated Chat Option for subscribers to discuss bottles in real-time. We will also begin hosting Shared Tastings, where we can dive into specific regions or verticals together.
  4. Phase 4: The Ultimate Dream – The Complete Kosher Wine Database. The final phase is the creation of the definitive Kosher Wine Database. This will be a one-stop shop where you can find all our notes alongside live data on where ANY wine is being sold (including wines we have never tasted). You find the “WINNER,” and/or exactly where to buy it, without the hassle.

Uncompromising Independence

Throughout every phase of this journey, one thing will never change: We will never take money from wine producers or retailers for reviews. To maintain total transparency, our revenue model for Phase 4 is built on integrity:

  • We will never charge retailers on a “purchase-by-purchase” or commission basis.
  • Instead, we will charge retailers a fixed annual amount to be listed in the database.
  • Because the fee is fixed, we have zero financial motivation to push one wine over another. Whether you buy one bottle or one hundred, our income remains the same.

This removes even the perception of bias. We don’t work for the stores, and we don’t work for the wineries. We work for you.

What the Kosher Wine Search Engine Will Get You

Premium Subscribers will get full access to the technical heart of our work:

  • Instant Search: Filter every note weve ever written by winery, vintage, score, or country.
  • The “WINNER” Filter: Instantly pull a list of every high-QPR wine currently on the market.
  • Early Access: You get the Passover and Rosh Hashanah “Buying Guides” weeks before the general public, giving you the chance to buy limited-run wines before they sell out.
  • The Live Trip Reports: Access to our raw data and notes while we are on the ground in France, Spain or Israel, long before the summary posts are written.

The Bottom Line

We love this community, and we love the hunt for the perfect bottle. But for this to be a “living resource” and not just a static archive, the model has to shift. The Kosher Wine Database is about taking the “musings” and turning them into a tool that works for you.

We are asking you to join us in this next chapter so we can continue to demand more from the kosher wine industry—one glass at a time.
